Daniel Levy steps down as Tottenham chairman with immediate effect | Tottenham Hotspur

Daniel Levy has stepped down as the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur with immediate effect.

The 63-year-old was the longest-serving chairman in the Premier League before his departure, having been appointed in March 2001. He leaves after the club won the Europa League last season to end a 17-year wait for a trophy.

The final year of his tenure was marked by fan protests, with supporter groups organising demonstrations against Levy’s stewardship in December 2024 and in February this year.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Tottenham Hotspur announces that Daniel Levy has today stepped down from his role as executive chairman after nearly 25 years.

“Tottenham Hotspur has been transformed over the last quarter of a century. It has played in European competitions in the last 18 of 20 seasons, becoming one of the world’s most recognised football clubs.”

Levy was quoted in the statement as saying: “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees. We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.

“I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn’t always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.” The statement said there would be no changes to the ownership or shareholder structure of the club.

In August Levy described the construction of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as his greatest achievement and hit back at fans who have blamed him for the club’s failure to win more trophies. “It’s one of those situations, when I’m not here I’m sure I’ll get the credit,” Levy told Gary Neville on his Overlap podcast.

Despite Spurs’ Europa League success last season, the club finished 17th in the Premier League after a record 22 defeats and Levy sacked sacked Ange Postecoglou just over two weeks after their win against Manchester United in the final.

Levy’s reign has been characterised by Tottenham’s high turnover of managers. Within a month of taking over as chairman in 2001, Levy had sacked his first manager, George Graham departing the club after two-and-a-half years in charge. Thomas Frank, who replaced Postecoglou, was Levy’s 14th permanent manager at the club.

  • Ravens’ Mark Andrews adamant he’s moved on as he returns to Buffalo, scene of brutal playoff drop vs. Bills

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews has a chance for some redemption on Sunday. Last season ended in disappointment for the three-time Pro Bowler and his team after he dropped what would have been a game-tying two-point conversion in the final minutes of the Ravens’ AFC divisional round loss to the Buffalo Bills.

To begin their 2025 season on Sunday night, Andrews and the Ravens will return to Highmark Stadium for a chance at revenge against the Bills, albeit with much lower stakes.

Andrews returning to the scene of such a devastating drop has emerged as an obvious storyline, but the veteran said Wednesday he isn’t focused on the past. His mind has been set on finding ways to improve. “Of course” Andrews watched their playoff loss back, he said, but noted that he’s turned the page toward the new season.

It can be hard to shake such a tough loss, but that Bills defeat is far from a dark cloud that floats above his head.

“I’m a pro, this is what I do,” Andrews said. “This is what I love to do, this is my whole entire world. So for me it’s about focusing, doing my job and just knowing the type of player that I can be for this offense, for this organization, for this city. I’ve never lost sight of that.”

Andrews did get support, specifically from other players, after the drop heard ’round the NFL. He was grateful for those who had his back and said he didn’t “listen to too much outside noise” as far as negativity is concerned.

“I’m grateful for the people that around me, that believe in me, that trust in me and I think that’s evident in me being here and the trust that they’ve shown me throughout the years,” Andrews said. “There’s been several times where I’ve stepped up and made big plays and I’m excited to do that this year as well.”

Individually, this offseason said he worked on improving his all-around game. From a team perspective, Andrews believes the Ravens have grown and are a “hungry” squad that is “ready to go” for Sunday night. The Ravens are 1.5-point road favorites for Sunday, per FanDuel Sportsbook

“We worked really hard and this is going to be a great test. So that’s the exciting part,” Andrews said. “We’ve had a full training camp of getting better. This is a new team … it’s two really good teams going against each other. I’m gonna play my part, I’m gonna do my job to the best of my ability which I’m excited about. It’s an incredible opportunity for this organization for me, this team and everything we want to do this year to start it off right and I’m excited about that.”

Whether it’s a revenge game, a redemption game, a season opener or a playoff game, Andrews’ focus is always on the game that’s in front of them. Each matchup brings its own difficulties.

“You never know truly what you’re going to get,” Andrews said. “I’m excited for the opportunity, going against a really good team and it’s going to be a good matchup.”

  • Gérard Depardieu to face trial in Paris over rape and sexual assault allegations

PARIS — French movie star Gérard Depardieu was summoned to trial before a criminal court in Paris over allegations of rape and sexual assault against actor Charlotte Arnould.

“I feel relieved,” Arnould wrote on Instagram on Tuesday after receiving the investigating judge’s indictment order. “The order restores a form of judicial truth. I think I’m having trouble realizing how huge this is.”

Arnould’s lawyer, Carine Durrieu-Diebolt, was not immediately available for comment. She told Franceinfo media she was “extremely satisfied” and described the decision as a “moment of judicial truth in this case.”

The case dates back to 2018, when prosecutors in Paris opened a preliminary investigation after Arnould accused Depardieu of raping her at his home.

“The acts of rape and sexual assault have been acknowledged,” Arnould said. “Now, we await the next steps.”

Prosecutors submitted a request last year for the case to proceed to trial.

Depardieu was convicted earlier this year of sexually assaulting two women on a film set and received an 18-month suspended prison sentence in a case that was widely seen as a post-#MeToo test for the country’s film industry.

The 76-year-old Depardieu, one of the most prominent figures in French cinema for decades, was convicted of groping a 54-year-old woman responsible for decorating the set and a 34-year-old assistant during the filming of “Les Volets Verts” (“The Green Shutters”) in 2021. The court ordered his name to be listed in the national sex offender database.

Depardieu’s long and storied career, which he told the court includes more than 250 films, has turned him into a French movie giant. He was nominated for an Oscar in 1991 for his performance as the swordsman and poet Cyrano de Bergerac.

In recent years, the actor has been accused publicly or in formal complaints of misconduct by more than 20 women, but so far only the sexual assault case has proceeded to court. Other cases were dropped because of a lack of evidence or an expired statute of limitations.
