    Pelicans, forward Herbert Jones agree to three-year, $68 million extension, per report

    The New Orleans Pelicans and forward Herbert Jones have agreed to a three-year, $68 million contract extension, ESPN reports. With the new agreement, Jones’ contract now spans five years, is worth $97 million total and includes a player option for the 2029-30 season.

    Jones, 26, appeared in only 20 games for the Pelicans last season before being sidelined indefinitely in January with a shoulder injury. He underwent surgery in February to repair the injury and was officially shut down for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

    Jones averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

    The fourth-year wing was coming off a career-best season in 2023-24 when he earned first-team All-Defense honors as the only non-center selected to the group. The 6-foot-7 Jones averaged 11.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game for the Pelicans that year while establishing himself as one of the league’s premier perimeter defenders.

    Jones has started in 231 of 240 games played since being selected by New Orleans in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft. He earned second-team All-Rookie honors back in 2021-22 after emerging as a key defensive anchor and reliable starter in his debut season.

    Jones was the SEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 as a senior at Alabama, averaging 11.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

    Taylor’s undisputed light-welterweight crown will be on the line once again, but this fight will have a 136lb weight limit at the behest of Serrano and her team.

    The Irishwoman was also nonplussed about being announced on stage first – traditionally reserved for the challenger – branding the hoopla and pre-fight rituals as “nonsense”.

    Having previously shared 20 rounds of all-out battle it’s not exactly a shock that some needle has built, with Serrano far from impressed by the scorecards from their second meeting in Texas last year.

    Serrano, 36, fought most of that contest battling a massive cut above her eye.

    She said adjustments are required, insisting she will box clever, and in relaying that information couldn’t resist another dig.

    “I’m going to use my head, but not the way it was used on me,” Serrano said.

    “We’re going to be smarter. We’re going to be smarter, work smarter. I work hard in every training camp so I didn’t work harder for this camp, but I did work a lot smarter for this fight.

    “And I believe that we can come out victorious. We will come out victorious.”

  • NBA 2K26 release date, price and special editions announced

    2K Games announced Wednesday that NBA 2K26 will be released on Sept. 5 and Angel Reese and Carmelo Anthony will be featured on special edition covers.

    Thunder guard and reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was announced a day prior as the cover athlete for the video game’s standard edition, which will cost $69.99 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X’S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

    Chicago Sky forward Reese will be on the WNBA edition and Anthony, who is set to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, will be on the superstar edition.

    A fourth edition will feature all three players on the cover.
